Resting Metabolic Rate Testing

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing is a powerful tool for understanding your body’s calorie needs. It measures how many calories your body burns at complete rest. This baseline is crucial for creating personalized nutrition plans, whether your goal is weight loss, muscle gain, or maintenance.

Why RMR Testing Matters

Understanding your RMR allows you to create a nutrition plan tailored to your body’s actual energy expenditure. This prevents the common pitfalls of under-eating (slowing metabolism and causing muscle loss) or over-eating (leading to unwanted fat gain).

Key Benefits:

  • Customized Nutrition Plans: Develop a diet based on your unique metabolic rate.
  • Weight Management: Optimize caloric intake for effective weight loss or gain.
  • Improved Energy Levels: Ensure you’re fueling your body appropriately for your lifestyle.
  • Enhanced Athletic Performance: Athletes can fine-tune their intake to support recovery and performance.

Preparing for Your RMR Test

For the most accurate results, proper preparation is crucial. Follow these guidelines before your Korr CardioCoach RMR test:

  • Fast for 4-6 hours prior: Avoid eating or drinking anything other than water. Food and beverages (especially caffeine) can temporarily raise your metabolism, leading to inaccurate results.
  • No exercise for 12 hours: Physical activity increases your metabolic rate, so avoid workouts or strenuous activity the night before and the morning of the test.
  • Avoid stimulants: Refrain from caffeine, nicotine, or any pre-workout supplements for at least 6 hours before the test.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink water, but not excessively — dehydration can influence the results.
  • Rest well: Ensure you get a good night’s sleep. Poor sleep can alter metabolic function.
  • Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing: This ensures you’re relaxed and comfortable during the test.

What to Expect During the Test

The Korr CardioCoach RMR test is quick, non-invasive, and easy. Here’s how it works:

  1. Relaxed Setup: You’ll sit comfortably in a relaxed, seated position.
  2. Breathing Mask: You’ll wear a lightweight, specially designed mask connected to the Korr CardioCoach device. This mask captures your breath to measure oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbon dioxide production (VCO2).
  3. Steady Breathing: You’ll breathe normally through the mask for 10-15 minutes. The goal is to stay as relaxed as possible — no talking or fidgeting — to ensure an accurate measurement.
  4. Real-Time Data: The CardioCoach device calculates your RMR based on how much oxygen your body consumes and how much carbon dioxide you produce.
  5. Personalized Report: Once complete, you’ll receive a detailed report outlining your RMR in calories per day. This number forms the foundation for a tailored nutrition plan.
